Maya studies the history of medicine and public health in the United States. She is particularly interested in health disparities and health justice movements during the 20th century.

A native of Oakland, California, Maya graduated from Brown University with a B.A. in Human Biology. Before coming to Yale, she worked in Open Access publishing at the medical research journal PLOS Medicine.
