My interests range from the history of public health to current topics in American medicine. I am fascinated with the portrayal of public health in the media and how this depiction shapes popular conceptions of medicine. Conversely, I enjoy exploring how cultural attitudes, both contemporary and historical, influence scientific research. My first book, Get Me Out: A History of Childbirth from the Garden of Eden to the Sperm Bank was published by W.W. Norton. I am currently working on a book, also to be published by W.W. Norton, about hormones—a 20th century journey into the way our perception of these substances has evolved through their discovery, use and abuse.
